Te Akau Gravel Grinder

You asked and we have delivered! The first ever Dynamo Events Winter Fun on Gravel! This is one not to be missed, the sleepy rural community of Te Akau has some of the best gravel roads in the North Island.

A very rural setting for this event and obviously the locals are not use to having cyclist racing around the local roads. Please show respect for the local community.

Race starts with a 7.2km section of sealed road, but that is pretty much it with just another 1.6km of seal over the rest of the course.

Gravel surface is generally good with nice wheel tracks to ride in, but watch for the unexpected pot holes!

There is 672m of climbing with most (555m) of this is in the last 35km of the long course, most is gentle climbing between 4% to 6% . Obviously this means for the short ride you have most of the hills.

Take some care on a couple of the fast downhill sections, or you could end up down the bank with some gravel rash!

Raetihi Gutbuster

The Raetihi Gutbuster (April 21st, Easter Sunday) is a fun way to experience the scenery and history of the Raetihi – Pipiriki road that lies between the Tongariro and Whanganui National Parks.

Starting outside the Waimarino Museum in Raetihi, it’s an out & back course with options to suit most.  The 18k has been completed by a 6 year old, even though it has a sharp 2k climb before the turnaround. The 50k is hotly contested by locals & out-of-towners, even though it’s a ‘fun ride’.

The road is sealed all the way.

The 25km ‘downhill’ option, is strictly limited to 20 riders, so don’t delay.

It is a unique ride in that it is New Zealand’s northernmost Cycle Challenge.  It starts at the beautiful Cape Reinga and meanders its way south down S.H.1 to Kaitaia.  The hospitality is second to none here in the far north and we welcome you to join us on this annual pilgrimage….There are no sign posts to say which way to go…its just one straight drag south!

Along the way you pass by Waitiki Landing (the last store), Te Kao (which boast the largest ice creams in the far north), through Houhora (fishing resort), Awanui (home of the Kauri) and finishing in the lazy metropolis of Kaitaia.
